Science Communication
Meet people where they are, and learn what matters to them
Making science engaging for broad audiences is possible if you are deliberate, creative, and thoughtful about your approach.
I’ve worked across oral, written, audio, and visual communication, including traditional news media and social media. I often provide high-level strategy and detailed feedback to colleagues as well.

An interpretation of Rosalind Franklin's famous "Photo 51," the X-ray diffraction pattern that served as pivotal evidence suggesting the double helical structure of DNA. Our understanding of the genome has grown far beyond this static snapshot, advancing hand-in-hand with our ability to change it. No longer set in stone, our genes are increasingly under our own control.

Promotional poster used to advertise an event featuring two luminaries of science and medicine, Jennifer Doudna and Sid Mukherjee.
I’ve had the opportunity to design standalone graphics and routinely do small-scale design as part of larger projects.
-
Deck of CRISPR-themed playing cards featuring atomic structures of different Cas proteins. Designed collaboratively with Kevin Doxzen, intended as a fun and educational promotional item that highlights the diversity of CRISPR systems.
-
Advertisement for a family-centric community science event offered as part of the Bay Area Science Festival.

Online Media
Site Management
I’ve managed websites for the Innovative Genomics Institute and the Hamden Education Foundation.

I worked with a developer to create new templates for the IGI site; I designed this site with Squarespace.
Consulting and Advising
I serve as an expert adviser on multimedia efforts that invoke or explain complex scientific topics, including animations, television, and film.
